Boston Area Student Interns Collaborative (BASIC)
This summer, the Democracy Center will be hosting BASIC. BASIC will supplement and enhance internships at other activist organizations by providing participants with workshops on a variety of issues and familiarizing them with the history of social movements in Boston. BASIC is our first step towards bridging the gap between students/interns and community organizations and their work. Those who will participate in BASIC will go through issue trainings needed to organize successfully including workshops about environmental justice, housing, race and gender, and community organizing. In addition, students will attend skill trainings such as meeting facilitation, fundraising, media and strategic planning. Beyond this, the experience will increase participants' capacity as social change agents and will help to build alliances between their host organizations. Any organization that is committed to social change is encouraged to make BASIC a part of their internship.
