Q: Can my organization use the Democracy Center?
A: The most important factor that we consider when reviewing an application for space is how a group is in line with our mission and our values. Also see "Reserving A Room"
Q: Is the building wheelchair accessible?
A: No, unfortunately, currently the building is not wheelchair accessible. However, accessibility is very important to us and we are working to raise the funds to have the necessary renovations made. If you have some mobility, there are six stairs leading into the building, and although the bathroom is not accessible, all of the main rooms and doorways are large enough to accommodate a wheelchair.
Q: Can we bring food?
A: Yes, you can bring food. But you MUST clean up after yourselves, including washing all of your dishes and throwing out all of the trash in the building. Please do not leave any food at the Center.
Q: Is there a kitchen?
A: Yes, there is a kitchen with a working sink, coffee maker and hot water kettle. However, there is no oven/stove, microwave or refrigerator.
Q: Is there a fee for using the space?
A: Yes, we believe that almost no group will have a problem with our fees, 100% of which go to oprational costs of this amazing community space. However, we will never turn a group away for lack of funds.

Q: Can I have a party at the Democracy Center?
A: Parties are not allowed at the Center. All events must be tied to a progressive organization or cause. And, although we do allow use of the Center for fundraising events, alcohol is never allowed in the building.
Q: Can my band play a show at the Democracy Center?
A: The Democracy Center only hosts benefit concerts for progressive organizations. A portion of the proceeds must also go to the Building Fund. Currently, we are sticking to a “one show per month” rule. All shows are being booked and directed by the Papercut Zine Library, which has space on the first floor of the Center. You can reach the Library by email at papercut@riseup.net or by phone at 617-492-2606.
Q: What kind of A/V equipment do you have?
A: There is a television with VCR that we allow groups to use for a rental fee of $10. We also have a projector and pull-down screen that groups can use for $25. We have a separate VCR that can hook up to the projector. To play DVD’s, you need to bring your own laptop computer.

Q: Who owns the Democracy Center?
A: The Democracy Center is owned by the Foundation for Civic Leadership, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to promoting civic engagement and political activity in this country.
